Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman in Congress and the first African American to seek the nomination for president of the United States from one of the two major political parties. She tenaciously fought for the rights of women and minorities during her time in the House of Representatives. Chisholm coined her motto “unbossed and unbought” which would later be the title of her autobiography. The late member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated said of her legacy, “I want to be remembered as a woman… who dared to be a catalyst of change.” #WOMENOFBLACKHISTORY #BLACKHISTORYMONTH
